When I think of Easter, I think of pretty pastel colors; so pastels are the inspiration for today's mani. This mani is hands down the brightest, wildest and most complex mani I have ever done. I used a whopping 10 different polishes to achieve this look; 5 pastels for my base colors and 5 complementary brights for the stamping. To make it even more complex, I used the 5 different stamping polishes to do the multi-color design. Since I was doing so much with the colors, I painted both hands exactly the same.

Here's what I used:

  • Base coat: Seche Recondition
  • Base color 1 - pinky: Stella by Julep (pastel creamcicle orange)
  • Base color 2 - ring: Mellow Yellow by Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear (pastel yellow)
  • Base color 3 - middle: Mint Sorbet by Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear (pastel mint green)
  • Base color 4 - index: Jessica by Julep (pastel blue)
  • Base color 5 - thumb: Lacey Lilac Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear (pastel purple)
  • Top coat 1: Seche Vite - I apply this before stamping, if I mess up I can remove the design without removing the base color
  • Stamp colors: Orange Pearl, Yellow, Green, Blue & Violet Pearl all by Konad
  • Top coat 2: Julep Freedom top coat cured under a 54 watt UV lamp for 5 minutes
  • IP: Dashica Beauty Shop Big SdP M, O & R

Stella by Julep is a beautiful creamcicle orange color, but the formula needs help. Its extremely thin and runny, so you have to do very thin coats otherwise you're going to have a huge mess on your hands...literally. This polish applies somewhat streaky (as many pastels do) and 2 coats is a must. Wouldn't recommend, especially at the $11.20 - $14.00 price.

Mellow Yellow and Mint Sorbet by Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear are also beautiful colors but are traditional streaky and somewhat patchy pastels. Mellow Yellow even more so than Mint Sorbet. Both require 2 coats, but Mint Sorbet is more opaque than Mellow Yellow with 1 or 2 coats. Like Stella, the second coat corrects any streaks and patches. I would definitely recommend these since you can buy these for under $3.00 and most pastels have these problems.

Saving the best for last...Jessica and Lacey Lilac blew me away!!! ABSOLUTELY THE BEST CREME PASTEL POLISHES EVER!!!!!! Both have the perfect formulas; the right amount of thickness, smooth application, no streaks nor patches and completely opaque in 1 coat. I would definitely recommend, regardless of price.
