Bitten by the holographic polish bug, I couldn't wait to try the China Glaze Hologlam collection.  But to make it interesting, I wanted to compare the Hologlam collection with another holographic polish brand that I have but hadn't used...Layla Holographic Effects.  For this mani I used 4 colors; 2 pinks and 2 grayish-blacks.  Normally I would use each color on both hands, but since I am comparing the 2 brands on my left hand I applied both pinks and on my right I applied both grayish-blacks.  Over the pink polish I stamped the design in black and pink over the grayish-black.  My ring finger on both hands are my accent nails.

Here's what I used:
  • Base coat: Seche Recondition
  • Base color 1: Galactic Gray by China Glaze Hologlam Collection
  • Base Color 2: Flash Black by Layla Holographic Effects
  • Base Color 3: Get Out of My Space by China Glaze Hologlam Collection (light pink)
  • Base Color 4: Retro Pink by Layla Holographic Effects
  • Top coat 1: Seche Vite - I apply this before stamping, if I mess up Ican remove the design without removing the base color
  • Stamp colors: Black Pearl and Vivid Pink both by Konad
  • Top coat 2: IBD UV Top Coat cured under a 54 watt UV lamp for 3 minutes
  • IP: Dashica Beauty Shop XL SdP 4 & 8

First, lets address the most important aspect of these polishes...the holographic effect and how they compare.  I had high hopes for the Hologlam Collection, especially after how great the OMG collection was.  But I must say, I was a sadly disappointed by holographic effect of the Hologlam collection; it's only slightly visible.  Get Out of My Space has practically no holo effect but Galactic Gray's was more visible, but not as visible as it in the Layla polishes and many of the other holo polishes.  Retro Pink's holo effect is equivalent to that of Galactic Gray, but Flash Black's effect is absolutely fabulous.

Now for the goods on the formulas.  Retro Pink has the worst formula ever!!!  With a thin application it is extremely patchy and dont dare attempt to polish in the same spot more than once while wet, it wipes clean off and  3 coats are required.  I would not recommend this polish at all unless it was on $1.

Flash Black is not patchy like Retro Pink, but isn't the best formula either.  Like Retro Pink, it wipes off if you paint in the same spot, but not as bas as Retro Pink.  You can't put any pressure on the brush while applying it and you should start applying the polish to the sides first to avoid overlapping.

Get Out of My Space and Galactic Gray have similar formulas but Galactic gray is much more opaque in one coat.  Get Out of My Space just looks like a pale pink chrome polish, nothing really special.  But I really love the color of Galactic Gray, its much more unique and I would buy it even if it was holographic.
