I keep forgetting to do write-ups for the different products that I've used and reviewed, but I have uploaded video reviews on my YouTube channel.  If you are interested, check out the video bar in the menu on the right or you can click here.

Today I want to talk about 2 products I recently purchased from Julep in my June Julep Maven monthly subscription box.  My profile is the Bombshell, but this month I really wanted to try the DD Crème & Concealer, so I opted for the Modern Beauty profile.  This allows me to try both full size products for $20 instead of paying $54.40.  I received my box on June 3rd and have been wearing it practically everyday so I could provide a thorough review.  So here it goes.

If you have not heard of Julep or these 2 product below are what Julep claims:

DD Crème ($28.80 Maven Price; $36.00 Reg. Price)
Size: 1.0 oz
A dynamic do-all makeup that goes beyond BB crème to moisturize, prime, perfect, and protect—both instantly and over time.
Features & Benefits:

  • SPF 25 provides daily defense from the sun
  • Two patented anti-aging ingredients decrease the appearance of pores and fine lines
  • Hibiscus and olive extracts keep skin hydrated
  • Lightweight, buildable coverage with an ultra-smoothing finish
  • Comes in four shades—light, medium, medium-dark, and dark
My thoughts:
I selected the shade in medium-dark based upon the shade selector tool available on Julep's website and I must say I am pleased with the color match.  It's a perfect match for my skin tone, as you cannot really tell that I am wearing it.  It provides a nice, polished, even and dewy look to you overall skin tone.  This is a light coverage product, so if you have really dark spots from acne or just dark spots in general this product alone will not be enough coverage-wise; you will need a concealer or you will need to apply it heavier.  It does feel weightless on the skin, but if you apply heavily you will kind of feel it.

If you have oily or combination skin this may not be the product for you, as it does very little to control oil.  I have oily skin (in my t-zone) in the summer and combination skin in the winter (oily in my t-zone and dry on my cheeks and around my mouth), and within a few hours of wear the oiliness is visible.  I tried using blotting papers, but found that some of the product comes off on the blotting paper.

And just to ensure that the additional SPF moisturizer I applied before the DD Crème was not contributing to the oiliness, on 6/10/13 midday I completely removed all makeup, allowed my skin to dry and then reapplied.  And the next day 6/11/13 I did NOT apply any other moisturizer, I was not as oily, but still oily.

I have also noticed that once you start to sweat, the product settles in your pores and makes them more visible; so if you have enlarged pores to begin with, I would pass.  I must add though, that after removal at the end of the day, my skin does feel much softer.

DD Concealer ($25.60 Maven Price; $32.00 Reg. Price)
Size: 0.11 oz
A multifunctional concealer that disguises and diminishes the appearance of dark circles, discoloration, redness, blemishes, and other skin flaws.
Features & Benefits:
  • Brightens and evens skin tone
  • Erases minor and major imperfections
  • Age-defying antioxidants protect delicate and damage-prone areas
  • Light-diffusing powders minimize wrinkles and pores
  • Highly concentrated formula
  • Comes in three shades—light, medium, and dark
My thoughts:
I selected the shade in medium, per the recommendation from their site and YouTube video.  For me, it did not conceal my dark spots hardly at all.  I had to apply more of the DD Crème after applying the concealer.  Or you have to apply the concealer fairly thick, but due to the extremely small amount of product you get, you feel like you want to use it very sparingly.  After a little bit of work it does blend in well  and it does brighten nicely under the eyes.  I imagine if you have pretty dark under eye circles, you would need to pile it on quite a bit, since it doesn't really conceal dark spots.

Overall, I will not repurchase either of these products for the following reasons:
  1. PRICE!!! You can find drugstore brands much cheaper
  2. Size of product for the price - not enough product, especially the concealer; after 1 week its practically empty
  3. Not for oily or combination skin
